about

Nathan Levasseur is a digital media artist working within the scope of commodification, masculinity and hyper-reality.

Through his practice, Nathan Levasseur explores the ubiquitous and pervasive phenomenon of violence as a system built in familiarity and seduction. Understanding violence as both visible and invisible uncovers an architecture that not only manifests in isolated moments, but is also subtly reinforced through everyday objects, interactions and language. By focusing on the latter aspect, Levasseur shifts the focus away from shock moments, and instead shows how violence has insidiously embedded itself into all areas of our social and cultural fabric. His work aims to surpass the simple replication of violence by creating a series of still moments and incidents that are yet to happen.
